Cornell College Math and Stats Professor Wins National Statistics Award
Ann Cannon, Cornell College’s Watson M. Davis Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, is the 2017 recipient of the Mu Sigma Rho William D. Warde Statistics Education Award.
Mu Sigma Rho is the national statistics honor society.
Cannon has taught various statistics-related courses, including Statistical Methods I and II, Mathematical Statistics I and II, Epidemiology, Calculus I, Dealing with Data: Data Management, Data Visualization, and Big Data.
Cannon is a member of the ASA’s Caucus of Academic Representatives and the Waller Awards Committee and serves as secretary/treasurer of the Statistical Education Section. As assistant chief reader, she helps score responses to the Advanced Placement
statistics test. Previously, she reviewed articles for the Journal of Statistics Education and The American Statistician.
She earned a PhD and MS in statistics from Iowa State University and a BA from Grinnell College.
